Bupa has been named the client partner for the International Advertising Association (IAA) Australia’s Big Idea 2026, a program designed to give the country’s next generation of marketing leaders hands-on experience tackling a real-world brand challenge.
Now in its 24th year, IAA Big Idea is Australia’s longest-running undergraduate marketing communications competition, bringing university students together to develop and pitch an integrated campaign in response to a live brief from a major Australian brand.
For Bupa, the partnership represents a significant investment in emerging marketing talent, giving students the opportunity to work on the kinds of strategic and creative challenges they are likely to face in their future careers.
Rather than completing a theoretical university assignment, participating students work in agency-style teams to tackle a genuine commercial brief, drawing on audience research, strategy, creative development and integrated communications planning.
This year, teams from universities across Australia will respond to a confidential brief from Bupa before presenting their campaign ideas to a panel of senior industry leaders.
“At Bupa, we believe great ideas can come from anywhere. That’s why we’re proud to partner with The Big Idea to champion emerging talent, inspire fresh thinking, and uncover bold new perspectives. We’re excited to see how students apply their creativity to real-world challenges,” said Naomi Driver, general manager brand and marketing at Bupa.
IAA Australia president Sheba Nandkeolyar said the competition was designed to bridge the gap between university and the marketing industry by giving emerging talent the opportunity to work on real client challenges.
“IAA Big Idea is about bridging the gap between the classroom and the industry, giving emerging talent the opportunity to apply their thinking to a real client brief,” Nandkeolyar said.
“We are delighted to welcome Bupa as our Client Partner for 2026 and look forward to seeing the creativity and perspectives this next generation of marketers will bring.”
The four highest-scoring teams will go on to present their ideas to a senior industry jury, while finalists will also receive one-on-one mentoring from industry practitioners to help prepare them for careers across marketing communications.
Since launching in 2003, IAA Big Idea has given thousands of Australian students practical industry experience, with many former participants going on to senior roles across brands, agencies and media organisations.
Registrations opened on 14 August, with submissions closing on 12 October. Finalists will present their work on 6 November.
