carsales has launched a dedicated app inside ChatGPT. The integration brings the auto marketplace directly into the AI tool—giving consumers an additional, seamless way to explore vehicles using natural, conversational language, while also expanding visibility for sellers across an evolving discovery channel.

carsales’ Australia’s Car Buyer Report 2026 shows that while traditional sources—including car review/comparison platforms like carsales, and OEM sites—are in the top three research influences and increasingly being used, AI has now entered the mix.

It ranks 6th overall in research influences, acting as an added layer of support rather than a substitute for trusted environments. Additional carsales data shows that more than one in three buyers now use AI in their car search, with adoption highest across Gen Z (45 per cent) and Millennials (53 per cent). Among these AI-assisted shoppers, ChatGPT is the most used tool, cited by 72 per cent.

“Our research shows that discovery happens in various places and AI is adding another layer of support alongside trusted sources. Bringing carsales into ChatGPT makes it even easier for people to explore options early in their decision-making process and move seamlessly into our marketplace when they’re ready to take the next step. It’s another way we’re helping people feel more certain in a complex decision,” said Craig Fraser, carsales managing director.

“This integration also expands visibility for our dealers and private sellers. Their live listings can now surface directly inside ChatGPT, opening up another high-quality channel to reach in market shoppers and helping to strengthen the exposure and outcomes our partners rely on.”

The ChatGPT integration builds on carsales’ momentum by extending carsales’ reach at a time when consumers are increasingly using AI as part of their research and decision-making.

This launch also follows carsales’ rollout of AI Voice Search on the carsales app—a key step in bringing more natural, conversational discovery into the buying journey. Together, these AI advancements create clearer, more intuitive entry points and reinforces carsales’ commitment to meeting consumers wherever they start their journey—whether that’s via search engines, social platforms, AI tools, or directly on the carsales app and website.

Once the carsales app is enabled via the ChatGPT app store, users can: describe what they’re looking for in their own words; receive relevant matches from carsales; view price and key highlights within ChatGPT; and click through to full listings or contact the seller on carsales.
