Disgraced Aussie cricketer David Warner will feature as part of Nine’s commentary team for the one-day international (ODI) series between Australia and England.
Warner, who is currently serving a 12-month suspension from playing international and domestic cricket over the much-publicised ball-tampering scandal that engulfed the Australian men’s Test team, will join Nine’s cricket commentary team for the second match of the ODI series on Saturday 16 June.
Speaking to Nine’s Wide World of Sports, the broadcaster’s director of sport, Tom Malone, said: “Dave is the best One Day and T20 batsman of the past decade, so he’s perfectly placed to join our coverage for the UK series.
“People have tried to paint Dave as the villain in all this, but he’s been hurting as much as the others.
“We’ve had a professional relationship with Dave for five years now [and] we’ve always found him to be a pretty normal and humble bloke.
“He just wants to atone for his mistakes and move on. I hope Australia gives all of them that chance.”
Warner’s recruitment comes after Nine’s veteran cricket commentator, Bill Lawry, announced his retirement, while Shane Warne has joined Fox Sports’ commentary team following the pay TV giant’s cricket broadcast rights win with Seven.
