the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is steamrolling ahead with the migration of advertising to digital to grab the attention of younger voters, with various departments forking out almost $800,000 on Facebook in just eight months.
Per The Australian, the government spent nearly $72,000 on Facebook advertising on the Premier’s own page in the first eight months of this financial year.
Tourism Victoria paid around $140,000, while the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation spent close to $80,000 and $74,000 was shelled out by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.
The government is looking to spend $1 million on Facebook advertising this financial year, as departments go searching for the eyeballs of young voters.
The figures come after the government claimed it would shut down any bogus advertising that could be deemed party political, with the government lowering the cost threshold for advertising, claiming already to have saved $15 million in the first financial year in office.
“The Andrews Labor government is reducing expenditure by moving to more effective, efficient and targeted advertising such as digital,” a spokesman told The Oz.
”We’ve spent an average of $15 million less on advertising each year than the previous government.”
