“We’re Living In A Long Episode”: Fake ‘Black Mirror’ Ad Holds A Mirror Up To The World

Netflix’s dystopian science fiction series Black Mirror has been receiving plenty of attention during COVID-19.

The show, which depicts “societies falling apart” according to its creator Charlie Brooker, is being compared to current global events.

So much so that Brooker was forced to come out and announce there are no plans for a new season people wouldn’t be able to “stomach” it.

However, the halt in production has not stopped some advertising students from devising a fake out of home ad for the non-existent Black Mirror season six.

Rather brilliantly, the mock ad – created by Spanish creative school Brother Ad School – simply displays a mirror and the words “Black Mirror 6th Season. Live Now, everywhere”.

The ad was placed on a bus shelter in Madrid.

“It’s been months since everything that happens in the world seems like we were living a long episode of black mirror,” commented Brother Ad School.

“In Netflix, the 5th is the last season you can watch. the 6th is happening in the real world.”

After being shared on social media last week, the fake ad has since gone viral.

The original post has been retweeted over 38,000 times.

It’s not the first time Netflix has been used in a mock advertising campaign during lockdown.

In late March, Fifth quarter student at the Miami Ad School Seine Kongruangkit and recent graduate Matithorn Prachuabmoh Chaimoungkalo imagined another fake outdoor campaign featuring Netflix spoilers as a way to encourage social distancing.
