Who’s Who In The Zoo took out the top spot among the non-news programs last night with a total TV national reach of 1,440,000 and a national average of 590,000 – thanks in part to a behind-the-scenes visit with Taronga Zoo’s cutest furry residents.
It is feeding time at Taronga Zoo, and first on the agenda is the herd of 16 fur seals in Taronga’s Seal Cove. Each of the adorable creatures has a carefully curated diet based on their needs, down to the exact species of fish they will be gnawing on.
Among them is Bondi, a rescued long-nosed fur seal, and a fan-favourite at the zoo, who was found on Bondi Beach with a severe injury to his left side at just 3 months old.
“It was touch and go for a while,” said Keeper Luke. “But the main thing is, he survived”.
Bondi has been part of the Taronga family for over ten years. His injuries were too severe for him to return to the wild, but he has more than made up for it.
Far from simply lazing around the zoo, Bondi now plays a vital role in supporting Australia’s fur seal population, a species that was once at a serious risk of extinction.
If the cuteness overload of Bondi and his babies wasn’t enough to keep you glued to the screen last night, we truly don’t know what will do it.
