Yesterday at 3pm local time, 80 million phones across the UK lit up for around 10 seconds to test the national emergency alert system.
At the same time, refugee charity Choose Love, with agency partner Droga5 London, hit go on a campaign that saw digital billboards across the country light up with the message: “This is not a test. You do need to take action”.
Choose Love provides emergency aid and life-changing support directly to displaced communities. Since 2015 its impact has been immense, working with local partners across 50 countries and raised millions of dollars to support refugees.
The campaign is the latest bold action from Choose Love and follows waves of anti-immigration protests in the UK.
Closer to home, anti-refugee and immigration protests have grown in both size and frequency in recent weeks with dramatic scenes across the country last week with the ‘March for the Country’ protests which turned violent in Melbourne and Sydney.
