Rihanna is the female artist people listen to most behind the wheel, according to Spotify data.

Curious to discover the ultimate driving soundtrack, Halfords has analysed Spotify data to reveal the artists that are most listened to behind the wheel. Hundreds of driving and road trip-related Spotify playlists were analysed to reveal the most popular artists.

The study involved analysing over 300,000 songs from playlists that included ‘car’, ‘driving’ and ‘road trip’ to show that Post Malone is the most popular driving artist, followed by Drake and Khalid.

Barbadian pop singer Rihanna is the only female to feature in the top 10 most popular artists for driving, coming in 6th. Her top car songs include ‘Umbrella’, ‘FourFiveSeconds’ and ‘S&M’, the first of which earned Rihanna her first Grammy Award.

Post Malone (real name Austin Richard Post) rose to fame in 2015 following his highly acclaimed debut single ‘White Iverson’. Malone has received three American Music Awards, a Billboard Music Award and six Grammy nominations. His most listened to song in the car is ‘Circles’ which was released in 2019 and is the 34th most popular driving song according to the data on Spotify.

Queen is the first band to appear on the list, coming in at 4th. The only other British artists to make the cut are Ed Sheeran and The Beatles, at 5th and 8th respectively.

1. Post Malone
2. Drake
3. Khalid
4. Queen
5. Ed Sheeran
6. Rihanna

Florence Smith, Lead Buyer for automotive at Halfords commented: “Whether it’s a 10-minute car journey to the shops or a longer road trip for a family holiday, no drive is complete without a great accompanying soundtrack.

“There are few better places to belt out your favourite songs, either alone or with your partner and kids. As the UK opens up again and people jump in their cars to head back out on the road, we wanted to provide people with the ultimate driving playlist to enjoy en-route.”
