Russia has been in the process of slowly cutting its citizens off from social media, it’s like the country is building a digital iron curtain, and no platform is safe.
Last week, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced that Russia has banned Instagram and expressed his disappointment.
Over 80 million Russian Instagram users will no longer be able to access the app and engage with people via the social media app.
On Monday, Instagram will be blocked in Russia. This decision will cut 80 million in Russia off from one another, and from the rest of the world as ~80% of people in Russia follow an Instagram account outside their country. This is wrong.

Naturally, the blocking doesn’t stop there. Russia has also blocked Facebook, Twitter.
You know, platforms that excel in sharing information and creating a sense of community.
There have even been rumblings that Youtube will be a target next, but only time will tell.
Though it seems clear Russia is set on creating a digital firewall. Can only VPNs save us now?
