News Corp Australasia’s executive chairman Michael Miller today announced that News has agreed to purchase digital racing publisher, Punters.com.au.
Punters.com.au is one of Australia’s most popular websites and apps for horse racing enthusiasts – providing a digital form guide, specialised racing content and a range of wagering partnerships – with a monthly average of more than 375,000 visitors.
Miller said: “News Corp Australia has a long and rich history with Australia’s racing, sports and wagering industries. The acquisition of Punters.com.au deepens News Corp’s commitment to Australia’s $6 billion horse racing industry and provides our 16 million monthly audience with an even more complete and integrated fan experience.
“Punters.com.au is already the country’s #1 rated form guide with a rich content offering and hosting an active social community. This partnership with Punters.com.au will allow us to take its tools, tips and news to a wider audience.”
Founded in 2008 as a blog, Punters.com.au has since attracted the following of a new generation of racing enthusiasts courtesy of its innovative form guide and modern approach to news delivery.
CEO and founder Luc Pettett said: “When we started Punters.com.au eight years ago we set out to challenge how horse racing was being represented, while respecting its history and traditions. With our dynamic young team, we’ve pushed the boundaries and created a product that is unlike any other in the Australian horse racing landscape. This won’t change and I’m so excited to start a new chapter with News Corp.”
Pettett will remain as Punters.com.au CEO while COO Heath Kilgour will also remain in his position.
