Channel Seven has just unveiled plans for its 2018 series of My Kitchen Rules. Here, the show’s host and everyone’s favourite almond activator, Pete Evans, reveals what’s instore for viewers in the latest series launching on 29th January…

What can we look forward to in MKR 2018?

A lot of great food as well as great entertainment.

What sort of qualities should our aspiring home cooks possess if they want to go all the way in the competition?

Teamwork, cooking with love and understanding what ingredients and flavours work well together.

This year we see supersized instant restaurants where teams have to cook for 16 guests. How tough is that and what should teams be mindful of?

It all comes down to how prepared and organised the teams are and making sure they are cooking dishes that they know and love.

MKR 2018 will be remembered as the year of…?

Traditional heritage cuisine.

Now entering its ninth season, MKR is still one of Australia’s most watched shows. What do you think is the secret to its ongoing popularity?

It has something for everyone – from great food to colourful characters and unfolding drama and excitement.

What are your Top 3 kitchen rules?

Cook with love, remove inflammatory foods and celebrate organic produce.

Can you remember the first dish you ever cooked at home?

I do remember making an omelette as a kid which was a lot of fun.

What is your favourite, go-to, home cooked meal these days?

Usually a good salad or roast or soup.

What are your tips for hosting a successful dinner party?

Cook nutrient dense food that is delicious.

Yourself and Manu are at the kitchen sink after dinner… who washes and who dries?

I would wash up.

What is the best thing about working with Manu after all these years?

We both have a deep respect for each other’s friendship.

Finally, is there such a thing as too much sauce?

Never if it is good.
