Mim Haysom, Suncorp’s chief marketer, has said that media and the industry perpetuates the myth that CMOs are not influential in their organisations’ boardrooms.
Speaking in a new CMO-on-CMO interview series with her Telstra counterpart Brent Smart as part of B&T’s CMO Power List, presented by atn, Haysom characteristically pulled no punches.

“I think media in the industry keep perpetuating this myth that CMOs are not influential in their organisations or around the board table. I just think that’s rubbish. It’s an untrue myth that keeps getting perpetuated. ” she said, as Smart nodded along.
“I go to so many roundtables and it gets talked about but then I think about all the great CMOs on this Power List and they all have incredible influence around the organisation at the board table.
“We need to stop talking about CMOs not having influence. It’s rubbish.”
“Amen!” replied Smart.
