Mark Ritson has offered some choice words of advice to marketers in 2025: “learn the basics because you don’t know them”.

B&T was a lucky guest at The Marketing Academy Australia’s 10th birthday party in Luna Park and, when we saw the goodly professor holding court, we couldn’t resist sticking a microphone under his nose (or, rather, clipping it to his lapel) and siphoning some of his wisdom to share with you all.

First on the agenda? Marketing’s biggest balls up this year. Second, what marketers should be paying attention to that they aren’t—it’s not the economy, it’s the environment. And then, the big one. Ritson bemoaned the lack of formal training marketers have.

“Learn the basics because you don’t know them. We did a bit of research in Australia this year with a representative sample of marketers for ADMA—only 32 per cent of them knew what the four Ps were,” he said. Watch it in full below.
