It has been three months since Hamish & Andy last topped the Triton Podcast Ranker, but in April, the dynamic duo returned to being the most listened-to podcast in Australia for the first time since December 2025.
The podcast represented by LiSTNR put out five new episodes in the month of April, racking up 832,058 monthly listeners and 1,552,516 monthly downloads.
LiSTNR had a solid month with three of its podcasts landing in the top 10, including Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne and AFL podcast Dan Does Footy.
Reflecting on LiSTNR’s results, Stephen Haddad, Southern Cross Media Group’s chief operating officer, said: “Today’s April Triton Podcast Ranker results reinforce LiSTNR’s position as Australia’s leading commercial podcast network, showing continual year-on-year audience growth.
“It’s fantastic to see The Inspired Unemployed debut in their first month of publishing with 222,981 monthly listeners, and the return of Hamish & Andy to the number one spot on the Triton Podcast Ranker (832,058 monthly listeners).
“LiSTNR continues to co-create and represent some of Australia’s biggest podcasts with more titles in the top twenty than any other publisher and many climbing in their ranking position including Hamish & Andy, Life Uncut, Dan Does Footy, Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki, The Imperfects, Triple M Footy AFL, Commsec Market Update, The Howie Games, 7News Just In, Triple M Rocks Footy NRL, Chat 10 Looks 3, Bizarre with Mick Molloy and Titus O’Reily, Everyone Relax, KIC Bump, and Motley Fool Money.
“To see the LiSTNR team continue to maximise these growing audiences commercially through its investment in AdTech – and with its known audience – provides proven real-time advertising solutions for our clients.”
One title that has been in plenty of Australians’ ears and had plenty of chins wagging is Karl Stefanovic’s independent podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show. However, the Australian television presenter’s show isn’t included in the Ranker because publishers/titles are included via an opt-in basis. And Stefanovic is yet to opt-in.
Holding the top spot since January was Mamamia with its podcast Mamamia Out Loud. After a solid run, the podcast that is hosted by Mia Freedman, Jessie Stephens and Holly Wainwright dropped to second place. Its 23 new episodes in the month were only just edged out by Hamish & Andy, pulling in a total of 722,478 April listeners and 1,507,895 monthly downloads.
The second place ranking follows Claire Murphy, head of podcasts and senior producer, being made redundant.
Murphy took to LinkedIn to confirm the news: “I will admit I did not have redundancy on my 2026 bingo card, but you never can predict these things, and so I find myself, for the first time in a long time, looking for my next gig,” she wrote.
B&T has contacted Mamamia for comment about Murphy’s departure and its position in the rankings.
News was the most listened to genre in April, with 4,936,275 monthly listeners. This was followed by Society & Culture with 3,660,232 and Sports with 3,229,246.
The Ranker released by Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA) in partnership with Triton Digital is an official, third-party verified podcast measurement system, governed by a cross-industry Steering Committee and backed by strong collaboration across commercial, independent, and non-commercial publishers.
The Australian Podcast Ranker is a monthly snapshot of the top 300 podcasts listened to by Australians, and the top 300 Australian podcasts.
“As the medium grows and advertiser interest deepens, the need for verified, independent data increases. The Ranker exists to meet that need – a single, credible source of truth for a thriving industry. For advertisers navigating an evolving landscape, that transparency is what turns interest into investment,” commented Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA.
