The Bureau of Meteorology’s expensive, underwhelming, and ill-timed rebrand project few ire around the internet last week.
But, Freelancer.com has launched a new contest to let its 60 million users have a crack at redesigning the logo (and for a fraction of BOM’s $220 million rebrand budget).
The contest launched yesterday and within four hours of the launch, Freelancer.com had received 72 entries from all over the world.
Matt Barrie, chief executive of Freelancer.com said: “In 2022, I cannot fathom how Government departments are still paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for brand redesigns when they can jump on Freelancer, post a contest and get hundreds of entries, submitted in real time for $20.”
Marko Zitko, Freelancer.com’s communication manager, added: “We wanted to show how easy it is to get fresh logo redesign inspiration, so we ran a contest asking our freelancers to redesign BOM’s old logo, in light of the rebrand this week. We posted the contest this morning and had 72 entries submitted by lunchtime, with plenty of unique logo designs. The results demonstrate how quick it is to crowdsource dozens of new design ideas.”
