Sarah Bailey, who recently left her managing director role at VML after almost seven years, is launching a book podcast and social media brand called He Read She Read.

Bailey, a successful novelist, will co-host, alongside fellow crime author JP Pomare, who has recently had two of his books turned into TV adaptations and has another in the works. Via He Read She Read, the pair will celebrate books and reading and encourage more people to invest in an activity that is proven to be good for mental health. Specsavers has been confirmed as their exclusive sponsor partner for the 2026 season of the show.

‘He Read She Read’ will be released fortnightly from 1 January 2026 across all major podcast platforms.

Each He Read She Read podcast episode will see Bailey and Pomare deep dive into a blockbuster book, unpacking the premise, plot, pace, place and people from their respective perspectives, as well as providing bonus book recommendations. Featured novels will include chart toppers like Taylor Jenkins-Reid’s Atmosphere and classics like Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.

They will also explore books that have recently been adapted for film and literary prize winners. From time to time, pairs of guests will join Bailey and Pomare, adding extra flavour to their book chat. Guests announced to date include high profile pairs: Georgia Love and Sammy Pederson and Clare and Jessie Stephens.

Said Sarah Bailey: “We want to have engaging, wide-ranging conversations about high profile novels and create a community where people can come together to discuss all things books and reading. JP and I won’t always agree and that’s the point. Neither will our listeners. And we can’t wait to hear the perspectives of our special guests too”.

Said JP Pomare: “After a four year hiatus I’m thrilled to be back podcasting and talking about books with Sarah. I view the median of podcasting as essential to a thriving local arts community. Particularly so in books in literature where we are seeing less space in traditional media for criticism and discussion about books”.

Added Anri, Specsavers: “Our partnership with the He Read She Read® podcast opens a new chapter for us, creating a meaningful connection between reading and eye health. Healthy eyes are essential for enjoying a good book, and it’s often while reading that people first notice changes in their vision. Presbyopia is an age-related condition that affects everyone eventually, so through this partnership we’ll be raising awareness and encouraging book lovers to prioritise regular eye tests”.

Said Bailey: “Several book podcasts have been retired over the past few years so we know we’re going against the grain but I think that just makes us more determined. The world needs more of this type of content right now, not less. All book chat is good chat as far as we are concerned and we are very grateful to Specsavers for their enthusiasm and support”.
