Michael Desier, aka DJ Micky D, from GoTransit Media has won the Club UnLtd DJ competition. The annual high-energy DJ competition saw six industry DJs take it to the decks at Oxford Art Factory to spin for good.
The event, kindly powered by Yahoo, raises funds for UnLtd’s work supporting charities helping young people facing disadvantage.
The competing DJs included Harvey Robbins aka ‘ALL RISE’ from PHD, Tom Hocking aka ‘HAUX’ from Seven, Erin Koedam aka ‘DJ EZ’ from MiQ, Michael Desiere aka ‘DJ Micky D’ from Go Transit Media, Ben Morrison aka ‘Just Ben’ from JCDecaux and Wye Yern Ng aka ‘DJ WYE YERN’ from Spark Foundry.
The judges commended winner DJ Micky D on his technique, music selection and his ability to read the crowd to get the dance floor buzzing.
The judges included Neil Griffiths, editor-in-chief at Rolling Stone; Trent Grimes, GM of TMRW Music and Dominic Brook, CEO and co-founder of Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD).
“It was such an honour to take part and compete amongst such brilliant talent. I’ve been DJing for years but I’ve never won anything so this win feels super special,” Desiere said.
“It was great to be part of an event that celebrates one of my passions whilst also raising funds for the important work UnLtd does.”
The evening also featured sets from resident DJ, Eric Crampton aka ‘DJ Crump$’ from Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD), glow in the dark painting by Supa Dupa Kids Parties and a fairy floss station by Yahoo.
Maddie Basso, Head of Yahoo DSP Australia said: “There was so much talent and positive energy in the room with everyone cheering the DJs on and hitting the dance floor. We’re proud to support the important work that
UnLtd do and celebrate the creativity and hidden talent in our industry. Congrats to all the DJs for taking part.”
The next event in the UnLtd calendar is the UnLtd Cup soccer tournament, kicking off in Melbourne on 16 July and Sydney on 24 July.
