Television icon, Carrie Bickmore has announced she’ll be taking leave from The Project to travel around The UK with her family.

Obviously, this is pretty upsetting news, but, thankfully we will have Tommy Little and Waleed Aly to keep us company while she’s gone and Queen Lisa Wilkinson, of course!

Bickmore broke the news via Instagram and wrote, “And we’re off ✈️…..Chris and I and the kids are finally doing something we have dreamed of for a while now….and in April we are heading overseas for a family adventure for a few months.

“One of the unexpected silver linings to come out of living through Melbourne’s lockdowns was the extended family time and we feel like this is our last chance to do something like this together before Ollie hits the pointy end of his schooling and no longer wants to hang out with us.

“So…we are heading to the UK for a school term. After 13 years on The Project desk it feels a little like long-service leave.

“I’ll miss you all, but you’ll still hear me across the airwaves every afternoon on the Carrie and Tommy Show and I’ll be back on The Project desk in a few months.”

Basically, she’s taking a well-deserved break to spend time with her family but will still be doing her radio gig. How very Kate Langbroek of her.

And before you panic that her trip means she’s planning to exit The Project for good.

A 10 representative told B&T, “We wish Carrie all the best on her adventure and can’t wait to hear all about it when she returns to The Project desk in a few months. We will miss her but after 13 years on the desk, we are glad she is getting some extended time away with her young family.

“We wish her a wonderful break and safe travels.”

Of course, that means people will be filling in for Carrie while she’s away drinking tea and frolicking with The Queen’s Corgies.

And here at B&T, we have our fingers crossed that we get to see more Tony Armstrong.
