Canva-owned Leonardo.Ai is solving one of the most persistent pain points in AI image generation: moving from an AI-generated image to one that can actually work in production.
The company, which was previously reported to be “benched” by The Australian, has launched Pro Upscaler, which it says is one of the first image upscalers built specifically for AI-generated images, not photography.
It delivers production-ready output at up to 105 megapixel, putting AI-created visuals on par with the highest-end professional cameras and making them viable for large-format print, billboard advertising, and commercial production.
Canva said that this matters because existing upscalers are designed for photography while its product is engineered for the characteristics of AI-generated images, which preserves what makes them distinct rather than processing them like a photo.
Canva said that within the creative ecosystem, Leonardo.Ai plays a role in advancing “high-fidelity generation and refinement, helping bridge the gap between creative exploration and production needs, without forcing creators to jump between fragmented tools”.
