Australian Podcast Ranker Launches ‘All-Australian Top 100’ Category

Australian Podcast Ranker Launches ‘All-Australian Top 100’ Category

Today’s release of the latest Australian Podcast Ranker will include a new ‘All-Australian Top 100’ category, in addition to the main ‘Top 100’ list that has been regularly released since October 2019.

The ‘All-Australian Top 100’ category list will be distributed on an ongoing basis alongside the principal ‘Top 100’ ranker.

Last month, the ‘Top 100’ ranker expanded to include popular US titles from ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Australia and Stitcher to better reflect the diverse interests and podcast listening habits in Australia. In order to be included in the ‘All-Australian Top 100’ category, podcasts from participating publishers must be commissioned by an Australian publisher.

Commercial Radio Australia chief executive officer Joan Warner welcomed the ‘All-Australian Top 100’ category as another important evolution in reporting on podcasting in the Australian market.

“The release of an ‘All-Australian Top 100’ category is a way to further highlight locally-created content and the increasing level of investment that local publishers are putting into local productions and content.

“It’s also pleasing to see continued growth in podcasting listening, with total downloads for the ‘Top 100’ up 18 per cent over the previous month,” said Warner.

The Australian Podcast Ranker is an industry initiative and is published by Triton Digital in accordance with IAB Tech Lab’s Podcast Measurement Guidelines. It reports on the most downloaded podcasts amongst participating publishers.

Podcasts in the main ‘Top 100’ ranker accounted for 19.1 million downloads over the four-week period from February 17 to March 15, 2020, up from the 16.2 million downloads recorded in the four-week period from January 20 to February 16, 2020.
