Amazon Australia has launched Amazon in-person tours in Melbourne, giving visitors the opportunity to step inside an Amazon fulfilment centre.

Launching during the January school holidays, the free, in-person tours will take visitors behind the scenes of Amazon’s Ravenhall Fulfilment Centre, a warehouse almost double the size of
Melbourne Cricket Ground. Led by expert guides, visitors and families are escorted through the 37,000 square metre site which can store up to 600,000 large items such as garden equipment, furniture and flat screen TVs.

Guests learn first-hand how Amazon orders are stored, packed and shipped to customers so quickly, using a combination of innovative technology and a 300-strong local workforce.

“We are excited to be opening our doors in Melbourne and welcoming adults and families into our Ravenhall site. These tours give Victorians a unique opportunity to see the magic that happens behind the scenes after they click ‘buy now’, and to meet some of the people who make it all happen. We hope the tours will not only provide a fun activity for the local community, but also spark curiosity in children about innovation, technology and logistics,” said Wayne Angus, director, Amazon Australia Operations.

“It’s great to show the local community where we work and how their parcels are prepared every day. I’m always excited to welcome our visitors—from families with young children to curious retirees and everyone in between—because no matter who walks through our doors, they’re amazed by the sheer scale of the site and the way our technology and people work together to get packages out our door and to their doorstep, so quickly.”

In-person tours are free of charge and operate twice daily, four days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays, with each tour lasting 60 – 90 minutes. Tours will operate in groups of 25 pax, with kids over the age from six able to attend with an adult.

All visitors must wear flat, closed-toe and closed-heel shoes, and long hair pulled back or above shoulder height.
