Alan Jones Goes After SBS For “Greatly Injuring” His Reputation By Calling Him A Racist, Liar & Misogynist

Ex-2GB broadcaster and current Sky News commentator Alan Jones is suing SBS for defamation, claiming the public broadcaster “greatly injured” his reputation on an episode of The Feed the day he announced his retirement.

Jones announced his retirement from 2GB on May 12 this year, and on the same day SBS program The Feed aired a “tribute” to Jones, with host Alex Lee claiming during the episode that Jones “spread lies and fake news”, “used racial slurs” and “made a career out of bullying people”.

And now, Jones is suing SBS for defamation, with his barristers Sue Chrysanthou SC and Kieran Smark SC  arguing Jones “has been greatly injured in his business, personal and professional reputation and has been and will be brought into public disrepute, odium, ridicule and contempt,” according to documents filed in the Federal Court last week.

The SBS broadcast also suggested Jones was a pedophile and took money from companies to spruik their products on air, which Jones’ barristers have argued is untrue.

Jones is seeking aggravated damages, a restraining order against SBS and Lee from repeating the claims, order for the episode to be taken down and costs.

SBS is yet to file a defense.
