WHO & FIFA Enlist Footballing Royalty For “Kick Out Coronavirus” Campaign

FIFA and WHO has called on 26 footballing superstars from around the world for a new campaign to highlight the perils of coronavirus.

Called “Pass the message to kick out coronavirus”, the casual spot features such footballing royalty as Lionel Messi, Gary Lineker, Micahel Owen, Xavi Hernández and US women’s star Carli Lloyd.

The sombre message probably doesn’t tell you too much more than you already know – wash your hands, cover coughs and sneezes, avoid touching your face, stay home if you are unwell and socially isolate.

On Monday, WHO and FIFA announced a joint effort “calling on all people around the world to follow five key steps to stop the spread of the disease”.

FIFA has also pledged $US10 million ($A17 million) in support of the WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Commenting on the work, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “We need teamwork to combat the coronavirus.

“FIFA has teamed up with WHO because health comes first. I call upon the football community worldwide to join us in supporting this campaign to pass the message even further.

“Some of the greatest players to have played the beautiful game have put their names to the campaign and are united in their desire to pass the message to kick out COVID-19,” Infantino said.
