Production of a reality TV show in the US has been halted indefinitely after an outbreak of “explosive diarrhoea” occurred on set.
The new show is called Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide and is a competitive adult version based on the famous kid’s backyard summer sliding game.
Filming had been taking place at a ranch in Simi Valley in California when there was an outbreak of giardia on set.
Giardia is a water-borne parasite that, if swallowed, results in acute abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Reports on US entertainment site The Wrap have revealed that up to 40 crew members caught the infection at the remote ranch resulting in, as one witness described it, “explosive diarrhoea”.
According to the source, people were “collapsing” and being “forced to run” to nearby portaloos.
The hosts of the program, comedians Bobby Moynihan Ron Funches, were unaffected.
People has reported that the source of the infection wasn’t the slide’s water but in “nearby surrounding areas”.
A spokesperson for the show telling the publication: “The health and safety of everyone on our set is our number one priority, so out of an abundance of caution we have made the decision to stop production of Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide at the current location.
“We are in the process of determining next steps in order to complete production,” the spokesperson said.
Host Ron Funches seeing the funny side, tweeting of the incident: “I love that they used a picture that makes me look proud. Did I have owner of ‘explosive diarrhea’ water park on my vision board? No. I never dreamed that big.”
