It wasn’t to be for the Matildas, whose dream of winning the AFC Women’s Asian Cup on home soil was crushed by tournament favourites Japan. For Paramount’s Network 10, it proved a winning formula, with 2,659,000 tuning in to watch the 1-0 defeat, making it the Channel 10’s most watched program since 2023.
A total TV national average audience of 1,358,000 tuned in to watch Japan and Tottenham star Maika Hamano curl a screamer past a helpless Mackenzie Arnold in the 17th minute in a game high on quality, but low on clear cut chances.
For the Aussies, playing at a sold out Stadium Australia in Sydney, the team created a few golden opportunities but couldn’t convert.
“We had such an amazing opportunity to do something special, and I take a lot of responsibility (for the loss),” Matildas forward Caitlin Foord said. “I had three really, really good chances and I need to do better. It definitely hurts.”
On Sunday, yet another Married At First Sight commitment ceremony topped the ratings. More than three million viewers watched on as Chris left husband Sam devastated on the couch. Chris and Sam had a challenging week, not being able to overcome Chris’ comments about the couples life together.
The farmer had explained to the rest of the couples what their supposed plan together was. The only problem was, this was his plan, and not theirs as he never discussed it with Sam.
This led to multiple arguments where no resolution was found.
For Seven, a reach of 1,794,000 and an average audience of 938,000 made Australian Idol its most watched entertainment program of the night.
Friday was dominated by sport, with AFL and NRL battling it out for the top spot. It wasn’t to be for Nine, who was edged out by Seven’s AFL coverage of the Western Bulldogs and the Adelaide Crows.
