Presenter and proud Whadjuk Noongar woman, Narelda Jacobs appeared on Studio 10 and discussed her feelings on the Queen’s death.
The Queen’s death has ultimately opened a really complicated conversation where plenty of people have used her passing to discuss the monarchy and colonisation.
Naturally, there’s been debate over how much Australians should honour the Queen’s death when colonisation stripped Indigenous people of their rights and ultimately created intergenerational trauma.
Jacobs candidly shared her thoughts on the matter. She explained that the monarchy was ultimately a “symbol of colonisation,” and that the monarchy had failed to address that during the Queen’s seven-decade reign.
She also said: “There was a great wrong that was done.
“Australia was settled without the consent of First Nations people that were here.”
Jacobs also said: “While the world has united in grief over the Queen’s passing, colonised people have also united over their trauma.”
However, Jacobs also clarified that people should be kind to one another and added: “The world is grieving for different reasons. Please don’t judge or dismiss anyone’s feelings of loss.”
A very personal share on @Studio10au to help us understand another perspective. https://t.co/NzfM6ALyCc

Jacob’s perspective is much needed one in our Australian media landscape.
