To no one’s surprise, Seven’s coverage of St Kilda’s AFL game against the Gold Coast Suns has topped the overnight TV ratings, with Nine’s Thursday night NRL coverage nipping at its heels.

Seven’s coverage drew a Total TV reach of 1.726 million while Nine’s coverage of the Storm versus the Panthers had a reach of 1.609 million.

However, the AFL, which saw St Kilda lose at home to the Suns had an average audience of 477,000 and a BVOD average of 65,000.

The NRL, meanwhile, had an average of 658,000 and a BVOD average of 153,000.

Channel 10’s top rating show was a repeat of The Dog House, which had a reach of 652,000 and an average of 302,000.

The AFL is going through a period of reckoning following allegations that a number of Sydney Swans players sexually assaulted a woman in Melbourne.

Nike and Volkswagen have become the latest brands to drop sponsorship deals with the involved players.
