Hollywood’s biggest night brought glitz and glamour to Aussie screens, with the Academy Awards drawing solid numbers for the Seven Network.

The broadcast of The Oscars secured an impressive Total TV National Reach of 1,254,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 488,000, with 115,000 viewers tuning in via BVOD, despite the time difference making it a tricky viewing window for Aussies.

The network also benefited from viewers catching up later in the day. The Oscars – Encore recorded a Total TV National Reach of 1,074,000 and an Average Audience of 231,000, suggesting plenty of Australians opted to watch the highlights once the results had already begun circulating online.

Seven’s Oscars Red Carpet Live also performed well, drawing a Total TV National Reach of 607,000 and an Average Audience of 419,000, as audiences tuned in early to watch Hollywood’s biggest stars arrive in style.

Last night’s ceremony featured lots of big wins, but not so many for Aussie nominees this year, including Rose Byrne and Jacob Elordi both being overlooked for awards despite their strong performances.

Byrne was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, with Jessie Buckley taking home the Oscar for Hamnet.

Aussie heart-throb, Elordi was up for Best Supporting Actor for Frankenstein, but the award went to previous winner, Sean Penn, for One Battle After Another.

Some of the big moments however, included: One Battle After Another was the night’s biggest winner, with the film securing six awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw made history as the first woman to win Best Cinematography for her work on Sinners, which was widely lauded as an emotional high point of the night.

Outside of Hollywood’s big night, entertainment favourite Australian Idol continued its strong run for Seven, pulling a Total TV National Reach of 1,721,000 and an Average Audience of 887,000 as the singing competition edges closer to its live performance rounds.

Over on Seven News, a Total TV National Reach of 2,202,000 and an Average Audience of 1,420,000 was secured, narrowly ahead of Nine News, which recorded 2,106,000 reach and 1,289,000 average viewers.

Nine also saw strong results with A Current Affair, which brought in a Total TV National Reach of 1,874,000 and an Average Audience of 1,131,000, while Tipping Point Australia delivered 1,458,000 reach and 775,000 average viewers.

Over on the ABC, 7.30 recorded a Total TV National Reach of 1,383,000 and an Average Audience of 896,000, while ABC News followed closely with 1,302,000 reach and 1,013,000 average viewers.

Meanwhile, on Paramount+, reality competition Australian Survivor brought in a Total TV National Reach of 694,000 and an Average Audience of 393,000 for Network 10.

The night’s overall ratings crown still went to Married at First Sight, which once again dominated the charts with a massive Total TV National Reach of 2,916,000 and an Average Audience of 1,887,000.
