Thursday TV Wrap: AFL Only Narrowly Pips NRL On An Otherwise Quiet Night

Seven’s coverage of the AFL only narrowly beat Nine’s NRL coverage on Thursday night.

While the AFL season re-start kicked off with a bang, the numbers have slowly been dwindling. Last Thursday saw 492,000 viewers tune in, while last night 391,000 watched the Bulldogs beat the Swans.

Over on Nine’s NRL, 353,000 Aussies tuned in to watch the Panthers beat the Rabbitohs.

According to OzTAM metro numbers in primary channel share, Seven won the night with 21.2 per cent, Nine did 18.6 per cent, ABC did 11.1 per cent, 10 did 8.6 per cent and SBS did 4.5 per cent.

Here’s how the rest of the night ran:

Seven

News did 1.10m, The Chase did 616,000, Home and Away did 558,000 and Sunrise did 266,000.

Nine

News did 995,000, ACA did 689,000 and Hot Seat did 535,000.

The Project did 445,000, 10 News First did 400,000 and Celebrity Gogglebox did 284,000.

ABC

News did 761,000, 7.30 did 648,000, and Escape From the City did 320,000.

All channel share 

Seven pulled a huge 34.0 per cent, Nine followed with 25.6 per cent, 10 did 16.2 per cent, while ABC and SBS did 16.3 per cent and 7.9 per cent respectively.

Demographic breakdown (all channels) 

People 25-54

  1. Seven – 35.0 per cent
  2. Nine – 26.3 per cent
  3. 10 – 20.3 per cent

People 16-39

  1. Seven – 41.0 per cent
  2. Nine –  23.5 per cent
  3. 10 – 19.6 per cent
