The Australasian Catalogue Association (ACA) hosted its 26th annual awards on Friday night, celebrating the best catalogue and letterbox marketing from industry leaders and up-and-coming talent.

With a record attendance of 734 guests, the room was filled with retailers, creatives, agencies, printers and distributers all awaiting to hear who had been crowned as award winners of the night.

The event, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, was hosted by Aussie broadcaster and actress Libbi Gorr, who kept the room entertained throughout the 46-category award ceremony with her quick wit and banter on stage.

TBWA Sydney & Maud won the ‘Agency of the Year’ category. The two agencies had a big year, winning another four categories for David Jones at the Australasian Catalogue Awards with Catalogue Retailer of the Year – up to 1.5M, Kitchen and Home Interior, Chain and Department Stores, and Online Retailers.

Jenny Calcott, production director at TBWA Sydney, said: “We are honoured to win the title of Agency of the Year. We’re very proud of our efforts and are thrilled to be among such credible names.

“Well done to our team for producing outstanding work over the past year. We are excited for the year ahead.”

David Jones, Myer and Chemist Warehouse were winners in the respective Retailers categories, and Aldi was victorious in the Supermarket awards, going up against competitive finalists Woolworths, Romeo’s Retail Group and Countdown Supermarkets.

The prestigious Judge’s Choice award went to BCF for its ‘Camp Couture – The BCFing Winter Fashion Collection’ catalogue produced by Clemenger BBDO and the BCF in-house team.

This award cannot be entered – rather, each of the 60 judges select the best of the best across all categories, and the winner is selected from the final four.

Emma Yerbury, marketing coordinator at BCF, said: “We are truly grateful to be awarded Judge’s Choice for 2017. Our strategy proved to be successful as we worked together to combine a strong range with a creative and competitive offering to engage customers.”

With $1,000 cash prizes being awarded to the Best Young Talent and Best Young Designer winners, Leah Mammoliti from Redhanded, and Zoran Serovski and Kathrina Mabilangan from Chemist Warehouse, were delighted to be selected across their industry peers.

“Thank you to ACA for awarding me with such a prestigious award,” Serovski said. “I am humbled to be a finalist let alone be a joint winner with Kathrina.”

ACA chief executive Kellie Northwood said she was thrilled with the number of attendees at this year’s awards.

“We are breaking records each year, and to have so many of our industry attend is spectacular,” she said.

“We are also excited to have launched Direct Mail as a new category, showcasing mass distribution with a touch of personalisation at the awards this year.

“Congratulations to all the finalists in this category, and all the categories. It really was fierce competition this year.”
