Talking ‘Where Are All The Baby Pigeons?’ With The One And Only Froomes

Lucinda Price, aka Froomes, aka MC of B&T’s 2021 30 under 30 awards, aka FROOMESWORLD CEO has a new aka to add to her impressive list: host of Nova podcast Where Are All The Baby Pigeons?

An investigative podcast in the truest sense, Where All The Baby Pigeons? sees Price and her gaggle of guests and experts try and answer some of life’s most compelling mysteries.

Price sat down with B&T to discuss the podcast, though listeners will have to wait until the end of season one to find the answer to the podcast’s titular question.

“It’s the one episode that we haven’t recorded yet,” she explained.

“Have you looked at them before? Oh, they’re ugly…It’s really alarming.”

The questions Price explores in the podcast vary massively. So far, NOVA has released episodes on topics such as “are twins telepathic?” and “do periods sync up?”.

Price’s inspirations for the episode stems from “a range of things”,  with guides including the Reddit shower thoughts forum.

“I think it probably starts out as things that I’ve wondered, for a long time, but haven’t looked into. They’re the kind of things that you’ll have a conversation with someone about and they’ll think ‘oh, yeah, what is that?'”

“[For this season] we tried to pick ones that were kind of things that most people had wondered, but season two, I wanna go full niche.”

To complement the wide ranging scope of the show, NOVA is hosting a truly broad range of guests too.

As Price put it, “we have a mix of a mix of experts, and funny people with anecdotes.  We’ve balanced it so it’s not just straight experts, not just straight talk.”

“We’ve got people like Louis Hanson, who’s a good friend of mine, coming on to the gay animals episode, which is my favorite: whether or not animals can be gay.”

“We’ve got a really, really interesting guy [who has done] his whole life’s research on the way animals are portrayed in the media. It’s a huge rabbit hole.”

The show features both conspiracy theorists and experts from across the globe.

“It was a very interesting project, just because you’re managing all these different time zones and different senses of humor,” reflected Price.

“Sometimes my jokes weren’t landing, which is very awkward.”

She described the process of working with NOVA as “awesome”, particularly her producers Amy Kimball [podcast producer at NOVA] and Ellie Beattie [NOVA Entertainment’s managing producer].

“It’s nice coming in as a freelancer because I feel like there’s a lot of respect for what each other does. They really give me free rein creatively.”

“[Amy is] really plugged in, she’s got really funny meme ideas, and Ellie’s been working in radio for years. It’s a collaborative process, and we have so much fun. Ellie said to me, ‘it’s important to have fun in the studio, otherwise what’s the point?’.”

Price has also established a name across a varity of platforms, including the popular FROOMESWORLD newsletter, her equally hilarious Instagram page and her work across Pedestrian.TV.

On the unique elements of working in audio, she explained that “it’s just always telling a story in an entertaining way, which I think is what I’ve always tried to do across all the mediums.”

“The thing about podcasts is probably the intimacy, about talking to people and really being able to focus on one aspect…with a podcast, you get to just kind of focus on telling the story with audio, which I found quite liberating, because you can make something a lot more nuanced.”

“You know, with my newsletter, I’m writing about similar things around like investigating stuff. And there’s only really so much you can do with writing. I think podcasting gives it a different element that I don’t have as much experience in, so I definitely learned a lot about it.”

When pressed on details for a second season, Price gave a few hints.

“I think recycling could be an interesting one. Because there’s all these myths about it, like, does it even work in Australia? My housemate’s always putting soft plastic in the plastic bins…I think maybe we should take an environmental bent on the next one. ”
