If you need to sell a 20-year-old car with almost 150,000 miles on the clock then it definitely helps to have a partner who’s also an accomplished filmmaker.
When American Max Lanman’s girlfriend Carrie tried to sell her 1996 Honda Accord the duo dispensed with a simple classified ad and instead decided to make their very own TVC that brilliantly embellishes the car’s sales potential.
The stunning ad, that was posted to YouTube last Thursday, has now had over 2.4 million views.
And – as if to prove the power of advertising – the original asking price of $US499 has increased by a staggering 300 per cent and the couple is now said to be fielding offers for their clapped-out Honda for as much as $US150,000. Check out the home-made ad below:
Lanman’s telling the BBC: “It dawned on me that it would be really funny to film a car commercial for a really crappy car against such a gorgeous backdrop. It is surreal to think that something that I made with my friends, that two days ago sat on my computer, is now being watched around the world. Thank God for the internet.”
