Some of Australia’s top journalists and media commentators have given their voice to a new social media campaign that calls for more diversity in Australian media and current affairs.
The project is the work of Media Diversity Australia and you can check out the Facebook video here.
Among the luminaries to contribute include the ABC’s Stan Grant, Channel Ten’s Waleed Aly and Hugh Riminton, and Nine’s Tracy Vo.
“This is not about political correctness it’s about telling the story of who we are. That’s what we do as journalists, we are telling the story of this nation every day,” Grant says.
But it’s not all media types either and features comment from Talal Yassine from the professional networking group The Crescent Institute and the race discrimination commissioner Tim Southphommasane.
A spokesperson for Media Diversity Australia said the campaign was designed to “ruffle some feathers” before adding: “It’s part of recently formed not for profit Media Diversity Australia’s strategy to reflect a broader cross-section Australian voices and stories in our media.”
