Pinterest has announced Snap Inc’s Julie Henderson will join the company as VP and Chief Communications Officer (CCO).
In her role, she will oversee all communications functions spanning corporate, product, policy, financial, consumer, international and internal communications. She will report directly to CMO Claudine Cheever and work closely with CEO Bill Ready.
Henderson, who departs from Snap Inc as CCO has helped shape the company’s narrative as it has evolved from a messaging app into a diversified technology company, expanding its advertising business while investing in augmented reality, AI, developer technologies and new products.
She has also played a leading role in the company’s engagement on many of the technology industry’s most complex public policy and regulatory issues, including online safety, youth wellbeing, privacy, platform regulation, competition policy and the responsible development of emerging technologies.
Before joining Snap, Julie was CCO at 21st Century Fox, where she led global communications through the company’s acquisition by The Walt Disney Company. Prior to that, she was Chief Communications Officer at sister company News Corp, where she helped establish the company’s corporate identity following its separation from 21st Century Fox.
Across both organisations, she advised senior leadership through major business transformations, strategic transactions and evolving policy and regulatory environments.
Earlier in her career, Julie held leadership roles spanning communications and corporate strategy at News Corp. She also led the digital practice at MPRM Public Relations, advising technology entrepreneurs, startups and established media companies as they adapted to the rapid evolution of digital media.
On her arrival to the company, Pinterest CMO Claudine Cheever said: “Julie is one of the most accomplished communications executives in the industry, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Pinterest.”
“As we continue to scale our platform and deepen our impact for users and advertisers worldwide, her experience navigating complex policy landscapes, major business transformations, and high-stakes narratives makes her exactly the right leader for this moment,” she said.
Henderson commented on her new role, and admitted she is “excited to be joining Pinterest at such an important time in the company’s journey”.
“What drew me to Pinterest was not only the strength of the business and the product, but also the people and the ambition for what comes next. Pinterest has an incredible opportunity ahead, and I feel very fortunate to have the chance to help tell that story. I can’t wait to get started.”
Her new role begins on 13 July.
