Red Bull Appoints New CMO Following Racism Storm

Red Bull Appoints New CMO Following Racism Storm

Red Bull has announced a new CMO, after the energy drink company sensationally sacked its North America CEO and CMO after a racially offensive slide.

In June, a slide was leaked to the media which detailed a cartoon map of the world singling out different countries where Red Bull is sold.

On the map, India was described as “call centres,” the Middle East as “evil-doers” with an arrow indicating “bombs go here,” and Africa as “zoo animals come from here”, while China has “they make our stuff” penned across it.

Following the reports, CEO of Red Bull’s North American operations Stefan Kozak and CMO Amy Taylor were both axed from the company.

Marketing exec Florian Klaass, whose team was responsible for the slide, was also sacked.

And now, according to reports in Business Insider, around 50 more marketers have been let go from the company.

The reports also suggest Red Bull has promoted its brand marketing manager Ken Turner to North American EVP and CMO, following Taylor’s departure.

The appointment makes Turner Red Bull’s most senior Black executive.
