Sydney radio station Kiis 1065 has experienced its first ratings drop with the home of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O led falling to second place behind WSFM.
Kiis 1065’s overall Monday to Sunday share of all listeners 10+ has dropped to 8.5%, according to GfK’s third metro survey for the year. However Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) strategy of dominating Sydney’s FM stations by holding number one and two positions is still intact with WSFM rising to first place. WSFM now has 9.2% of Sydney listeners and is second only to Macquarie Radio Network’s 2GB which has 13.2%. 2GB is today celebrating 10 years as Sydney’s number one radio station, with today’s survey marking the station’s 80th consecutive survey win.
WSFM’s ratings bump is thanks to a major marketing campaign to promote the Classic Hits Network’s Sydney and Melbourne rebrand to Classic Hits Pure Gold. In the wake of the previous survey which saw WSFM drop out of second place ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell told B&T: “It is our sort of goal to ensure that cross over is minimised and the goal still remains for those stations to be number one and number two FM. We expect the marketing campaign to have a positive impact on those results.” In breakfast the Kyle & Jackie O show have been dealt their first drop with Kiis 1065, losing 1.4 points to sit in second place in the FM stakes and third when it comes to all commercial channels. The station now has 9.5% of Sydney’s breakfast listeners. Kyle & Jackie O’s former employer 2DayFM also dropped, with the Jules Lund, Sophie Monk, Merrick Watts and Mel B breakfast team dipping from 4.1% to 3.6%.
WSFM jumped almost two points rising from 8.2% to 10%. WSFM’s rise continued in the drive slot where its share increased from 6.4% to 7.8%. But the rise wasn’t enough to put the station ahead of Kiis 1065 with Rosso winning the FM drive slot on 9.6%. Nova 96.9 dropped slightly in overall and breakfast but the largest fall came in drive where it lost 1.7 percentage points to sit on 8.7%. 2DayFM had the second largest FM rise, adding just under one point to its drive share to reach 6%. 2GB continues to lead drive, jumping just over one point to reach 11.7%. 2UE remains stable on 2.6%. The competition for Melbourne’s radio audience is fierce with four FM stations sitting on 6.9% of people 10+, Monday to Sunday. Nova 100, Fox FM, Triple M and smoothfm 91.5 all now have an overall share of 6.9%.
