Yes, the second radio ratings survey is out for 2018, and like always, B&T has summarised all you need to know from the numerous tables issued by GfK, on behalf of Commercial Radio Australia.

After a lacklustre performance in the first survey of 2018, KIIS FM picked up its game in Sydney, with both its brekkie and drive teams claiming the mantle of number one on the FM frequency. However, the latest ratings news wasn’t so good for its sister station, WSFM.

Elsewhere in Sydney, Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM has continued its radio ratings resurgence in the brekkie slot, with hosts Em Rusciano, Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer seeing even greater growth in their ratings from the last survey – up 1.0 per cent to 4.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, SCA’s strategy of having two drive teams is paying off, with Carrie & Tommy and Hughesy & Kate again owning the slot with another strong ratings performance.

As for KIIS FM’s new Melbourne brekkie duo Jase & PJ, they continued their ratings decline, down 0.1 per cent to 5.0 per cent.

Here’s a thorough city-by-city breakdown of the ratings…

SYDNEY

Macquarie’s 2GB has lost a little bit of its leading overall market share from the first survey of 2018, down 0.3 per cent to 11.5 per cent, while ARN’s KIIS 1065 has moved back up into the top three, claiming second place (and first in the FM standings) with a 1.4 per cent share jump to 9.5 per cent.

NOVA Entertainment’s smoothfm held onto third spot overall with a flat market share of 8.5 per cent.

The ratings news was not so good though for WSFM, with its overall market share falling 0.6 per cent overall to 8.4 per cent, following on from last survey’s 0.7 per cent drop. Both the brekkie (Jonesy & Amanda) and drive shows for the station saw a 0.9 per cent ratings drop.

Breakfast

First: 2GB (down 1.2 per cent to 14.3 per cent)

Second: KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O (up 2.3 per cent per cent to 12.3 per cent)

Third: ABC Sydney (up 0.6 per cent to 8.9 per cent)

MELBOURNE

After two straight surveys of overall market share decline, Macquarie’s 3AW returned to positive territory – up 0.5 per cent to 13.7 per cent – maintaining its lead in Melbourne.

SCA’s Fox FM proved that its second placing in the last survey (and first in the FM rankings) wasn’t a fluke, growing its share by 0.6 per cent to 11.4 per cent.

NOVA’s smoothfm kept the top three the same as last survey despite a 0.2 per cent decline to 10.1 per cent.

Breakfast

First: 3AW’s Ross and John (no movement at 19.0 per cent)

Second: Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Byron (no movement at 10.3 per cent)

BRISBANE

ARN’s 97.3fm has continued its move up the rankings for overall market share, finishing first this time ‘round with 12.9 per cent (up 0.8 per cent).

Nova 106.9 has been pushed down into second with yet another market share drop, down 0.5 per cent market share drop to 12.1 per cent, while SCA’s Hit105 rounded out the top three despite a 0.6 per cent drop to 11.2 per cent.

First: 93.7fm (up 1.1 per cent to 11.9 per cent) and Hit105’s Stav, Abby & Matt (down 0.5 per cent to 11.9 per cent)

Third: 97.3fm’s Will & Woody (down 0.1 per cent to 12.1 per cent)

ADELAIDE

A 0.4 per cent overall market share decline to 15.7 per cent wasn’t enough for ARN’s Mix 102.3 to give up pole position, while SCA’s Triple M moved up into second with a 0.3 per cent increase to 10.9 per cent.

ABC Adelaide claimed third with a 0.3 per cent market share rise to 10.7 per cent, knocking FIVEaa out of the top three.

Third: Triple M (up 0.5 per cent to 10.8 per cent)

PERTH

Mix 94.5 has continued its winning ways in Perth with 15.7 per cent market share overall, despite a slight 0.1 per cent decline.

A second straight drop in market share (down 0.8 per cent to 12.0 per cent) didn’t stop Nova from keeping the number two spot, while Hit929 moved up into third with a flat market share of 10.7 per cent.

Breakfast

First: Mix 94.5’s Clairsy, Matt and Kymba (down 0.1 per cent to 15.0 per cent)
