Podcast Ranker: Hamish & Andy Claim Top Spot

The Australian Podcast Ranker has released its top 100 podcasts for August and Hamish & Andy continues to reign supreme.

For the first time, and for all three rankers, the ranker is based on listeners instead of downloads. In addition, for the first time, both the listener and download metrics are presented to the readers.

Because these changes will have an effect on the ranking, The Australian Podcast Ranker is not showing rank changes for this edition only, rank changes will be available again next month.

It was, however, another huge month for podcasts with the total downloads of all shows by all participating publishers in the month of August a whooping 49M.

As for this month, the top three publishers for the Australian Podcast Ranker are ARN/iHeartMedia, LiSTNR (SCA) and Audioboom.

The top three podcasts in both the Top 100 Ranker and Top 100 All-Australian Ranker are:

  • Hamish & Andy (LiSTNR – SCA) – Monthly downloads: 2,074,274
  • Casefile True Crime (Audioboom) – Monthly downloads: 1,993,799
  • Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne (ARN/iHeartMedia) – Monthly downloads: 1,394,911

Interestingly, LiSTNR had more podcasts in the Top 20 Podcast Ranker than any other publisher. As well as Hamish & Andy taking out the Number One listened to the podcast, other LiSTNR podcasts in the Top 20 included Hamish & Andy’s Remembering Project, The Briefing, and The National Briefing.

However, NOVA Entertainment and SchwartzMedia both had podcasts in the top 5.

Interestingly, ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network has claimed the coveted title of Australia’s #1 podcast network for the 16th consecutive ranker with 17.6 million monthly downloads.

Audioboom’s Casefile, which is part of the iHeartPodcast Network, is Australia’s 2 most listened to podcast, Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne is 3 with 516,958 listeners and Stuff You Should Know is 6.

SCA, chief content officer, Dave Cameron, said: “Creating the No.1 podcast in Australia, as well as creating the most amount of original Australian content every day is an extraordinary achievement for our radio and LiSTNR content teams.”

ARN’s head of digital Audio, Corey Layton said, “As Australia’s #1 Podcast Network – with the most listeners and downloads in Australia – we are leading the industry with our commitment to creating quality connections for our audiences and commercial partners across all of our platforms.

“We continue to invest in the evolution of the iHeartPodcast Network by expanding our diverse offering and working with the best audio content creators in Australia and across the globe.”

The Podcast Ranker is measured by Trition’s podcast metrics measurement system. The metrics measurement service is certified by the IAB Tech Lab.
