According to Domino’s, the number one complaint of its customers is: “My pizza doesn’t look like it should!”
To address this, the pizza company has introduced the ‘DOM Pizza Checker’ – a new system that utilises artificial intelligence to make sure each pizza looks like it belongs on a poster.
Domino’s Australia CEO Nick Knight said: “the reality of a busy store can sometimes mean pizzas go out which are below the high standards our customers expect, and quite frankly, deserve.
“For anyone who has ever been disappointed with their pizza for any reason – maybe there was hardly any pepperoni on it, or not enough cheese – rest assured, we have heard you!
“If the pizza meets our high standards it’s good to go and if it’s not made right, we’ll make it again.”
The DOM system first captures an image of the pizza, then uses artificial intelligence technology to ensure it meets the standards by comparing it with a large dataset of ‘good’ pizzas.
Customers will be notified that their pizza has been quality checked.
As it is an AI system, in theory, it will only improve as it judges more and more pizzas.
It also frees up Domino’s staff who might have been previously quality checking the pizzas to perform other tasks.
It is not the first time Domino’s has used emerging technologies in an attempt to deliver better outcomes for customers.
The company has previously delivered pizzas via drone and developed a Facebook chatbot.
