Channelling 90s nostalgia for this year’s Super Bowl, Wayne’s World stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey have returned as Wayne and Garth for Uber Eats’ first-ever entry to the Big Game.
The Special Group has again created magic for Uber Eats by recreating the Wayne’s World set, with stars Wayne and Garth returning to broadcast their famous Wayne’s World segment, as though they hadn’t left the basement of Wayne’s parents’ house for decades.
Breaking the fourth-wall in the ‘Shameless Manipulation’ spot, Wayne and Garth tell the audience they would never manipulate them with celebrity appearances, before introducing Cardi B to encourage viewers to support local restaurants through Uber Eats.
The trio then exchange outfits before joining to sing a combined sign-out tune of: “Local eats, Wayne’s World, yummy time, excellent.”
It then ends with an invitation to visit the EatLocalEffort.com website to locate affiliated restaurants.
The clever spot, which deploys several tongue-in-cheek references to trends, advertising tactics and tropes, and was created by Special Group US and Australia, marks Uber Eats’ first ever ad for the Super Bowl.
