Nine and Southern Cross Austereo To Launch Canberra News Bulletin

The Nine Network, in conjunction with its affiliate partner, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), has announced it will broadcast a dedicated news bulletin to the nation’s capital.

Launching on Monday 6 February, the one-hour bulletin will be broadcast at 6pm each week night, compiling local stories, dedicated local sport and weather reports, together with national and international coverage.

Presented by Vanessa O’Hanlon (pictured above), the Canberra bulletin is the first in a series of Nine News regional bulletins to be rolled out in the coming months. News will be gathered by local reporters, and will be aided by production and editorial staff based in Sydney as part of Nine’s new regional news division.

Nine’s director of regional news, Mike Dalton, said the network has had a big presence in Canberra for many years, spearheaded by political journalist Laurie Oakes.

“We’re now expanding our footprint beyond the walls of Parliament House, with a team of reporters out in the suburbs reporting the stories of most importance to the residents of the ACT,” he said.

“Nine News has been broadcasting for more than 60 years, and now it’s Canberra’s turn to experience the bulletin that Australians turn to for trust, credibility and experience.”

SCA chief executive Grant Blackley said the network is pleased to be able to broadcast a Canberra-based news service for its viewers.

“We are committed to investing in jobs and our local communities, bringing the best local stories to air and providing our Canberra clients and businesses with new opportunities to reach their customers,” he said.
