Nike has launched an “American Woman” ad to support the U.S. women’s soccer team during their FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.
The one-minute spot set to the Guess Who’s classic tune American Woman features players Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux and others undergoing some intense training. The team training is intercut with scenes of youth players training as well and ends with the line ‘Strong Alone. Unstoppable Together’.

The ad is a part of a bigger #NoMaybes social media push for the company- who have been embroiled in the latest FIFA scandal.
“We didn’t want to go into this trying to make a women’s spot—we wanted to make a soccer spot,” said Michael McGrath, partner at Thousands Creative, the Portland, Ore., agency told Adweek.
“We wanted to make a soccer spot that was strong and powerful and put women on the same plane as a lot of the World Cup spots featuring their male counterparts,” said Thousands Creative partner Shamus Eaton.
“You have to have a team mentality with the competitiveness of the individual,” U.S. Women’s National Team captain, Abby Wambach said during Nike’s press release. “You want to make sure that everyone around you has the same mentality and then enmesh those individualities. We are masters of controlling ourselves and bringing out the best in each other.”
Team USA is tipped to win the FIFA tournament, especially with its comfortable win against Australia this week.
