Foxtel CEO Patrick Delaney has been forced to apologise after calling Game Of Thrones Star, Emilia Clarke a “Short and dumpy girl!”

Delaney was giving a speech to launch The Game Of Thrones spin-off, House Of Dragons, when he said: “I was like, ‘What’s this show with the short, dumpy girl walking into the fire?’”

Delaney was referencing one of the opening scenes in Game Of Thrones. The smash hit series that is also synonymous with Foxtel.

The “Short, dumpy girl,” in question is Clarke. An incredibly beautiful, and fabulous young woman.

Naturally, Delaney’s comments caused outrage. I mean, let’s face it, the audacity of his comment is enough to offend. But also, in 2022, why are we still describing women by their bodies?

Crikey has reported that a spokesperson for Foxtel Group said: “The Foxtel Group apologises if his remarks were misunderstood and caused any offence.

“The aim was to convey that for him, Games of Thrones was something very different for television in 2011 and that Emilia Clarke went from relatively unknown to one of the most recognised and most-loved actors in television and film.”

Naturally, Twitter has weighed in on the Foxtel boss’s comments.

Murdoch sure can pick them!

It happened during @HouseofDragon premiere and @HBO still doesn’t made a comentar about this disgusting fact. The way this garbage man Patrick Delany disrespected Emilia… woman who created millions for this company during 10 year https://t.co/ntGxUD4I0a

It will be interesting to see if Delany addresses his comments any further.
