“Merry Tin Fest!” ‘Christmas In A Can’ Is Really A Thing & It’s Already Sold Out!

If there’s a downside to Christmas day it’s always that some poor sap has to spend most of the 24th doing the grocery shopping and then eight-hours cooking the lot on the 25th while all the other guests get drunk.

However, time-consuming Christmas lunches could well be a thing of the past with the arrival of Heinz’s ‘Christmas dinner in a can’. Yep, it’s a thing.

The product has just launched in the UK and is already being marketed as the ideal solution to feared grocery shortages over the festive period bought on by a lack of truck drivers and labour shortages the UK is presently experiencing. Brits have already being warned of severe turkey shortages.

The canned dinner, or more accurately soup, reportedly contains “big chunks” of turkey, pigs in blankets, Brussel  sprouts, stuffing balls and potatoes, all with a gravy and cranberry sauce.

It’s only available online for a very reasonable £1.50 ($A2.70), however media reports suggest  the tinned treat (limited to just 500) has already sold out such is consumer excitement.

Heinz claims the tinned meal came about from its own research that found 36 per cent of those who celebrate Christmas prefer the traditional dinner to any other meal.

According to the 2027 UK adults surveyed, 42 per cent agreed that the traditional Christmas lunch took too long to cook, while 36 per cent said it was too expensive.

Another study by MoneySuperMarket found that a third of Brits spent up to £60 ($A108) per head on Christmas lunch, while eight per cent went as high as £100 ($A180) per person.

Commenting on the creation, Anke von Hanstein, the brand manager for Heinz Soups, said: “It is made for those with a big love for hearty festive flavours and tastes just perfect with a slice of warm crusty bread. Any soup that includes pigs in blankets and roasties is a winner in our eyes.

“And if these lucky few who managed to get their hands on it love it as much as we do, Heinz Christmas Dinner Big Soup might be back next year, bigger and better. Watch this space.”
