PETA UK has launched a horror film starring a giant processed ham monster called ‘Ham Face’.
Ham Face is a lumbering villain that breaks into a house and terrorises a family. He then cuts slices of ham from his face and force feeds the father ham sandwiches.
And if that is terrifying enough, the ad reminds viewers that ham, bacon, sausages, and other meats are both the product and the cause of death.
“Meat’s pretty scary when you know what’s in it,” warns the video, which was created by Pablo London.
PETA points out that processed meat is classed as processed meat, like ham, bacon, salami and sausages, as Group 1 carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), putting it in the same category as those other mouth-watering treats, asbestos and tobacco smoke.
The IARC estimates that consuming 50 grams of processed meat per day – about two rashers of bacon – increases the risk of colorectal cancer by approximately 18 per cent.
Not content by disclosing the “horrors of ham”, PETA took a swipe at lamb and beef, saying that “other mammalian flesh” is “probably carcinogenic to humans”.
PETA described the processed pork industry as ‘a real-life horror movie for pigs’.
“Imagine how outraged you’d be if puppies were hoisted by their hind legs and had their throats slashed open before being dismembered and eaten. That’s what happens to 10 million gentle, clever pigs every single year in the UK alone, even though they, like dogs, feel pain and fear and value their lives and families,” PETA said in a release.
The good news is that salvation can also be found in the supermarket aisle in the form of vegan alternatives.
After all, nobody has ever died from a giant lentil monster shoving daal down someone’s throat.
