The toy maker has urged customers who bought Wicked Movie dolls to throw away the packaging, which accidentally contains the address for a porn website.
The movie adaptation of the West End hit musical Wicked has caught the eye of critics, hailing the film as a ‘masterpiece’ that contains ‘absolutely stunning vision’.
It turns out fans who have bought dolls for the man characters in the film and wanted to check out the website printed on the back of the packaging would also be subject to eye-catching vision, but for completely different reasons.
Over the weekend, people began sharing photos on social media of the dolls’ packaging, which showed a link to the wicked.com porn site, instead of wickedmovie.com. The packaging mistake was found on dolls for the movie’s main two characters Glinda and Elphaba, who are played by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo respectively.
Mattel said it was first made aware of the mistake on Sunday and promised to rectify the situation.
“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children,” a Mattel statement read.
“Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel customer service for further information.”
B&T understands the dolls were mostly being sold in American department stores Target, Kohls and Amazon, but have been subsequently removed.
