No one needs reminding of the terrible impact CV-19 has had on Victoria, with the state back in lockdown and 16 new deaths reported over the past 24 hours alone.
To ramp up its protective efforts, the Andrews government has revealed a new campaign via M&C Saatchi Melbourne that’s in the “scare” mould of traditional anti-smoking or road safety messaging.
Only last week, B&T asked was it time adland reprised the famous AIDS/Grim Reaper ads in the face of COVID-19?
The confronting spot has first person testimonies of the horrors of CV-19, including the death of loved ones.
Despite a concerted effort to highlight the campaign via its social media channels, B&T had enormous difficulty tracking down the spot; hence, our thanks to The Daily Mail here.
Commening on the ad, Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said the confronting campaign aimed to help Victorians “understand the reality” of widespread deaths that the state is fighting to avoid.
“It is an unfolding tragedy that is hard to get your head around,” Professor Sutton told The Age over the weekend.
“This is an invisible enemy in lots of ways and when we just talk about numbers, when we talk about reproduction numbers and transmissibility, that doesn’t bring it home like understanding the genuine consequences for people does,” Sutton said.
