Sophie Hanson has joined Junkee and Punkee as head of editorial.
Hanson brings more than a decade of senior editorial experience and contributions across global digital and lifestyle titles, including People, Vogue.com, Harper’s Bazaar, Bustle, The Cut, and InStyle.
Her appointment underscores Junkee Media’s continued focus on social-first formats, creative excellence, and perspective-driven storytelling across its youth brands.
Hanson comes from People Inc. where she was the mornings editor for eight months.
Hanson said: “I have been a fan of Junkee and Punkee for a long time because of the way they connect with young Australians. Youth audiences are more discerning than ever, and I’m incredibly proud to lead a team of hungry, creative producers and journalists for whom unique perspectives are a top priority. Joining as Head of Editorial is, quite frankly, a dream come true — and I can’t wait to keep building on the momentum of both mastheads.”
Junkee Media has also appointed Michael McCurdie as brand partnerships lead in March 2026, strengthening the company’s editorially‑led approach to commercial innovation.
McCurdie’s background spans events, festivals, partnerships, and strategic brand development. His appointment aims to help the business expand into new creative and commercial opportunities.
