Instagram Trials New Features To Support Social Causes

London, UK - July 30, 2018: The buttons of the photo app Instagram, surrounded by WhatsApp, Facebook, Messages and other apps on the screen of an iPhone.

Instagram has announced it will be trialling a slew of new features to support social causes.

The app’s new feature aims to make it easier for users to discover and support social causes directly through hashtags.

Basically, now when you search for certain hashtags that are synonymous with certain social movements, like Black Lives Matter or Women’s Rights, for instance, there will now be a slew of options available for you to do support these causes.

Now, after you type in a hashtag like #blacklivesmatter you can select, ‘support’ to learn more about the movement.

There’s also a ‘Create a fundraiser’ option that allows you to start raising money on behalf of a cause and even a ‘Spread the word’ option that lets you share the hashtag page with friends.

Instagram wrote in a blog post, “Today, we’re beginning to test a new feature that helps people find and support social movements on Instagram. People often come to Instagram to make their voices heard, elevate causes and bring communities together.

“They’re eager to support causes they hear about on Instagram and are always looking for new ways to take action — these updates will make it easier to do so.”
