Korean carmaker Hyundai is spruiking the merits of its brand new electric IONIQ 5 in a wonderfully witty tie-in with the latest Spider-Man flick (due in Australia on December 16) called Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The oddball spot, also called “No way home”, stars Tom Holland who plays Peter Parker/Spidey in the new movie and finds our superhero holed-up in a motel in the middle of nowhere watching himself get belittled on local TV.
He then decides to head back to New York and that’s where the gags begin. He starts singing a sullen rendition of the Spider-Man theme from the 60s. He fires off his web into fields because a lack of high-rise building’s has made them all but redundant. He passes a scarecrow dressed up as his nemesis Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the new movie) and shoots a web at its head.
He’s finally rescued by his best made Ned (played by actor Jacob Batalon) who arrives to save the day in the cooly-styled ONIQ5. We then see a road sign showing New York in 300 miles (the exact battery charge of the Hyundai).
The ONIQ5 even manages to nab a scene in the new movie and follows on from Hyundai’s aggressive marketing in the electric vehicle space after Tesla seriously cut its electric lunch. Check out the fun work below:

Hyundai will air the spot across major markets – US, Europe, Russia and China – until the end of January. The brand is running a social media promotion offering special-edition movie posters with the ONIQ 5 and customised digital wallpapers, as well as posting behind-the-scenes videos and other content online to extend the reach of the campaign with Marvel fans.
